Strategy for designing liners

In many cases, building a thicker structure and foregoing the use of a liner can be the most cost-effective solution. In coal or limestone mining, the structure can often be used without liners, allowing the extra capacity to boost production.

However, when abrasion is higher, using liners becomes a feasible solution. There are various strategies for designing mining truck liners, and there is no right or wrong. By focusing on optimization and reducing weight, the resulting increase in revenue can quickly offset the investment. The figure below illustrates some design ideas for a “flat floor” configuration, categorized by light, medium and heavy-duty applications.
