General Product Description

Normalized pressure vessel steel heavy plate.

SSAB Multisteel PEA is hot rolled structural steel for general pressure equipment steel constructions. PEA = Pressure European American (meets the European and American standard).

Exceeding the requirements of several standard steel grades, SSAB Multisteel PEA is a versatile pressure vessel steel for fabricated pressure equipment made of weldable fine grain steels. Formability and highly consistent quality guarantee fast, uninterrupted production, generating clear savings in the costs of material management.

SSAB Multisteel PEA exceeds several steel standards and is available as five steel grades: P355N, P355NH, P355NL1 and P355NL2 according to EN 10028-3 and SA/A516 GR 70 according to ASME/ASTM SA/A516.

SSAB Multisteel PEA covers steel grades in five different qualities:

1) Room temperature quality (P355N)

2) Elevated temperature quality (P355NH)

3) Low temperature quality (P355NL1)

4) Special low temperature quality (P355NL2)

5) General normalized pressure vessel steel with impacts (SA/A516 GR 70)

6) SSAB Multisteel PEA (all together)

PED certificate (for EN 10028-3 grades):

Pressure vessel steel grades recognized by standard EN 10028 are mainly delivered with the inspection certificate 3.1. Directive 2014/68/EU (PED) requires the manufacturer’s quality assurance system to be approved by an external accredited authority (Notified Body).

SSAB Europe Oy Raahe Works holds the PED – approval from DNV.

SSAB Raahe Works is authorized to use PED certificate for pressure equipment steels according to EN 10028-3 based on EN 10028-1.

Dimension Range

SSAB Multisteel PEA is available in thickness of 6.00 – 50.00 mm.

                  Fabrication and Other Recommendations

                  Welding:

Weldability is excellent with all welding processes. Increased working temperature requirements are less than those of the corresponding strength grades of standard steels. This means easier welding and cost savings under both workshop and site welding conditions.

Needed working temperatures for thick plates please consult SSAB Tech Support.

                  Forming:

SSAB Multisteel offers better formability properties than standard steels. Successful forming requires that the manufacturer uses good workshop techniques. Worn tools, poor lubrication, scratches on the surface of the steel as well as edge burrs will all reduce forming quality.

Guaranteed minimum bending radius for all directions is 2 x t up to 30 mm thick plate where t = plate thickness.

                  Heat treatment:

Recommendations for stress relieving and normalizing.

                  Stress relieving 550 – 600°C (target 580°C)

2 minutes/millimeter of thickness, however, 30 minutes minimum. Slow cooling in the furnace.

                  Normalizing 900 – 940°C (target 920°C)

1 minute/millimeter of thickness, however, 20 minutes minimum. Cooling in free air.

For information concerning fabrication, see SSAB´s brochures on www.ssab.com or consult Tech Support.

Appropriate health and safety precautions must be taken when bending, welding, cutting, grinding or otherwise working on the products.
