Wear design > Wear Attaching liner plates

Material selection

The service life of liner plates is mainly affected by two factors, hardness and thickness.

SSAB’s WearCalc software helps users choose the right type of steel for their specific application in order to minimize wear and extend service life. This aids in planning service intervals for the equipment.

Hardox® 450: For all-round use in liners

In quarries or mines, Hardox® 450 is typically used for liners. Hardox® 450 is a versatile material that can be cut and welded in the field. It is also ideal for drilling and countersinking.

Hardox® 500 or Hardox® 500 Tuf: Built for challenging wear conditions

With the right workshop setup and skilled operators, Hardox® 500 can be processed without difficulty. While bolted installations are straightforward, welding requires proper expertise to ensure optimal results. For applications involving a higher degree of impact, Hardox® 500 Tuf is recommended because of its toughness properties.

Hardox® 550 and Hardox® 600: Designed for severe wear conditions

Both Hardox® 550 and Hardox® 600 deliver outstanding wear performance, making them ideal for tackling severe conditions. These grades are often used to complement solutions based on Hardox® 450 and Hardox® 500 in high-wear areas. SSAB’s global network of parts and service centers, Hardox® Wearparts, offers the expertise and equipment to produce high-quality liners for the most demanding applications. Since the liner plates are bolted to the structure, installation is easy. Thanks to their exceptional hardness, Hardox® 550 and Hardox® 600 plates resist deflection, which highlights the importance of having a rigid and well-maintained backing structure for optimal performance. Another practical solution is to decrease the size of the liner plates with very high hardness to reduce deflection and residual stresses.
