SSAB uses the term “structural wear plate” for materials with hardness levels up to 490HB, such as Hardox® 500 Tuf. These materials can be used as structural components in applications like buckets or tipper truck bodies. While there are no guaranteed yield or tensile strength values, Hardox® wear plates are suitable for use in applications not governed by any structural standards.

Selection guide for Hardox® grades based on the wear type.
The hardness grades Hardox® 500, 550, 600 and Hardox® Extreme are primarily classified as wear plates. However, Hardox® 500 and Hardox® 550 are commonly used in applications such as shredder knives within the recycling industry.
Hardox® 550, 600 and Hardox® Extreme are often used as versatile liner plates that can be cut, drilled and machined. In contrast, cast materials with similar wear performance cannot be processed in the workshop, giving Hardox® steel a distinct advantage.
