Liner plate size

For workplace health and safety reasons, liner plates should not be too heavy. When plates need to be handled manually, there is a weight limitation of approximately 25 kg (55 lbs.), which corresponds to dimensions of 400x400x20 mm.

For this reason, materials like Hardox® 600 are increasingly popular. Their exceptional durability helps ensure a long service life while keeping plate weight low.

Alternatively, scaling up liner plates and using cranes or lifting devices can be an effective solution when working with Hardox® grades up to 500 HBW. By carefully planning installations and incorporating lifting supports, downtime can be reduced by more than 50%. A practical example of this approach is the use in drop-in chutes, such as those placed before a SAG mill or other critical areas of a mine.

Replacing traditional cast liners with high-performance Hardox® plates is a common and effective upgrade. Cast parts are normally small due to their limited toughness. One key benefit of switching to Hardox® steel is the ability to use larger plates, which enhances performance and reduces the number of components required. It is strongly recommended to maximize this advantage.

Larger plates cost less to produce and can be quicker to install if a crane or lifting support is used.
