The core of SSAB’s business is to develop and produce Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS) and Quenched & Tempered (Q&T) steels that are stronger than ordinary steels. This in turn helps our customers to produce lighter and stronger products, thereby reducing their environmental footprint. SSAB’s customers can also reduce their footprint with low CO₂ steel, by using steel produced in SSAB’s blast furnace- based production, which is among the most CO₂ efficient in the world. Furthermore, with HYBRIT technology, SSAB aims to be the first steel company in the world, in 2026, to bring fossil-free steel to the market in 2026.

Go fossil-free: SSAB aims to be first with fossil-free steel in 2026

SSAB is undertaking a strategic roadmap to revolutionize steelmaking, and to be the world’s first steel company to deliver, in 2026, iron ore-based fossil-free steel to the market. This includes an active leadership role in the HYBRIT joint venture initiative with LKAB and Vattenfall. The target is to be completely fossil-free as a company by 2045.
