Strong participation in the Permanent Support Structures course on Gardermoen, Norway

SSAB participated with RD pile wall concept. Visitors were very interested in the stand where a full scale model of the pile wall were displayed together with the newly made animation. The animation showed, in an illustrative way, the concept behind the RD pile wall, its advantages and the installation method. Most questions were regarding the RD pile wall water tightness- and installation details.

RD pile wall can be installed in extremely difficult conditions unsuitable for traditional retaining walls. The solution can replace other retaining wall construction in challenging sites. The RD pile wall facilitates a unique solution to penetrate both soil (fine-grained or coarse) and bedrock in one operation. In turn this gives a more watertight transition to bedrock than sheet piles. As the wall is installed it can function both as a temporary and a permanent structure. A clear benefit is the capacity of taking both vertical and horizontal loads if needed.

The RD pile wall can be chosen from numerous dimensions of drilled steel pipe piles, ranging from outer diameter 220 mm up to 1220 mm.

SSAB have delivered RD pile walls to several projects in the Norwegian market.

SSAB’s Technical Manager Sondre Smeland presented how RD pile wall will work in difficult conditions.
