There is an extensive piling worksite in north-east of Stockholm. Construction of Fabriksparken in Sundbyberg will last 4 years, mainly consisting of apartment buildings. Piling in Fabriksparken started in April 2017 and will continue until autumn. SSAB delivers in total 2 680 pieces of RR pile elements and 200 pieces of RD pile elements. In total over 1 600 tons of steel. All piles are steel grade S460MH. RR pile elements are 12 meter of length and RD pile elements 12 meter and 4 meter of length. SSAB delivers also rock shoes and bearing plates.

Piling contractor is Rovalin AB, Swedish foundation engineering company installing both drilled and driven piles. In Fabriksparken almost all piles will be driven. One corner of the area was very close to the bedrock and therefore had to be drilled. In total 200 RD piles were drilled.

“Piling has been proceeding well and as planned. There have only been some changes to the time schedule. There have been 3 piling machines for drilled and driven piles at this site. Piling for the first apartment building is finished now and we will start piling for the next apartment building in early September. It will take about 1.5 months to finish. Reason for choosing SSAB as a supplier for piles was quality, price and supply performance“, says Johan Saarela, CEO Rovalin.

Fabriksparken is developed by Skandia fastigheter, one of Sweden’s largest building developers. Fabriksparken will have 450 apartments, penthouses and townhouses. There will be a market place, bars, outdoor restaurants, small shops, food stores and offices. New construction will be brick buildings, which links well to the area and its history. Construction work will be completed in 2021. Commuting to Fabriksparken is easy since there are subway, commuter train as well as buses available. Both the downtown of Stockholm and the airport is less than a quarter of an hour away.
