Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson returns to SSAB
Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson is to return to SSAB as Senior Advisor to work with the company’s public affairs in Sweden, the Nordics and at the EU level. He will report directly to SSAB’s President and CEO Martin Lindqvist.

“Our focus in the next few years will be on SSAB’s fossil-free transition and how we ensure a green value chain. It’s ultimately a matter of contributing to climate goals and ensuring competitiveness. I’m convinced that Karl-Petter, with his long experience gained from politics and the trade union movement, together with his strong engagement in social issues, will be able to support SSAB’s green transition in the best possible way,” says Martin Lindqvist.

“SSAB is doing great work to fundamentally change the steelmaking process and is the only company in the world to have made fossil-free steel and delivered it to customers. The industry has built Sweden and is also of decisive importance going forward for us as a nation, our competitiveness and for our wellbeing. I look forward to using my experience to contribute to creating the conditions for a green Swedish industry and new green jobs,” says Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson.

Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson has held many important positions in Swedish politics and in Swedish and international trade union movements. He is a former Swedish Minister for Business and Industry, President of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO), the Workers’ Educational Association (ABF) and the Swedish Social Democratic Youth League (SSU).

Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson takes up his post at SSAB on September 18, 2023.
