General Product Description

Normalized or normalized rolled structural steel heavy plate. SSAB Multisteel HSD and HSE are hot rolled hull structural steel for general marine steel constructions. HS = Hull Structural – D and E = impact strength class.

Exceeding the requirements of several classification societies rules, SSAB Multisteel HS is a versatile structural steel for shipbuilding. Formability and highly consistent quality guarantee fast, uninterrupted production, generating clear savings in the costs of material management.

SSAB Multisteel HS exceeds several steel standards and is available as six societies rules: DNV (NV), Lloyd's Register EMEA (LR), American Bureau of Shipping (AB), Bureau Veritas (BV), Registro Italiano Navale (RINA), Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (PC) and also possible to certify to EN 10025-2 S355K2+N.

Maximum four (4) different grade if one of them is AB. Otherwise maximum three (3) grades in one plate. Combinations e.g NVD36/ABDH36N/BVDH36/PCD36 or NV D36/BV DH36/S355K2+N. Please enquire for suitable combination before placing the order.

CE marking:

SSAB Raahe Works is authorized to use the CE marking for structural steels according to EN 10025-1 and EN 10025-2. The CE marking is marked on an extra page of inspection certification 3.1 for S355K2+N. CE marking can be given only if S355K2+N is one of the steel grades in the combination.

Dimension Range

SSAB Multisteel HSD is available in thicknesses of 5.00 - 150.00 mm.

SSAB Multisteel HSE is available in thicknesses of 5.00 - 150.00 mm.

(If PC is involved in the combination max thickness is 100 mm.)

                  Fabrication and Other Recommendations

                  Welding:

Weldability is excellent with all welding processes. Increased working temperature requirements are less than those of the corresponding strength grades of standard steels. This means easier welding and cost savings under both workshop and site welding conditions.

Needed working temperatures for thick plates please consult SSAB Tech Support.

                  Forming:

SSAB Multisteel offers better formability properties than standard steels. Successful forming requires that the manufacturer uses good workshop techniques. Worn tools, poor lubrication, scratches on the surface of the steel as well as edge burrs will all reduce forming quality.

Guaranteed minimum bending radius for all directions is 2 x t up to 30 mm thick plate where t = plate thickness.

                  Heat treatment:

Recommendations for stress relieving and normalizing.

                  Stress relieving 550 – 600°C (target 580°C)

2 minutes/millimeter of thickness, however, 30 minutes minimum. Slow cooling in the furnace.

                  Normalizing 900 – 940°C (target 920°C)

1 minute/millimeter of thickness, however, 20 minutes minimum. Cooling in free air.

For information concerning fabrication, see SSAB´s brochures on www.ssab.com or consult Tech Support.

Appropriate health and safety precautions must be taken when bending, welding, cutting, grinding or otherwise working on the products.
