Hardox® HiAce—durability that pays off

What’s eating your steel?

When your equipment operates in corrosive or wet environments, failure isn't a question of if —it's when. Corrosive wear doesn’t just damage steel—it accelerates mechanical wear, attacking standard AR steel from the outside in. The result? Unexpected downtime, higher maintenance costs, and reduced productivity. Other materials like stainless steel can resist corrosion—but when corrosion and wear act together, Hardox® HiAce is the toughest corrosion-resistant metal. This latest addition to the powerful Hardox® wear plate family is specifically developed for aggressive applications in industries that face both abrasive and corrosive threats, including municipal and industrial waste management, recycling, wood processing, pulp and paper, waste-to-energy plants, in mining and process industries as well as agriculture and forestry.

A silent and costly intruder

While wear is often obvious, corrosion is stealthy—slow, hidden, and just as destructive. Left unchecked, it leads to accelerated wear, costly failures, eroded budgets, and lost confidence in your equipment. Hardox® HiAce offers superior resistance to corrosive wear and delivers longer service life where other steels fall short.

Hardox® HiAce puts corrosive wear on hold—for years

Where other materials wear down, Hardox® HiAce stands strong. No matter how corrosive the environment, this corrosion-resistant metal keeps delivering durability, toughness, and peak performance year after year. That’s what it’s made for: to outperform, outlast, and keep your operation moving.

Get ready to reap the benefits of these unique properties. With less wear and fewer part replacements, your equipment stays in service longer. Hardox® HiAce doesn’t just endure—it delivers long-term reliability.

The real proofs of Hardox® HiAce: 70% reduced maintenance, outperforms stainless steel

Stena Recycling’s large steel drums are used in a wet recycling process, creating a highly corrosive wear environment. The harsh conditions proved too much even for stainless steel, leading to high maintenance costs and frequent disruptions. The solution that turned everything around? Hardox® HiAce.

Discover the real Hardox® HiAce benefits: resistance, reliability, and real savings

There’s more to Hardox® HiAce than an unmatched power to meet the most extreme challenges. Its ability to resist goes above and beyond, bringing benefits that affect maintenance costs, workshop efficiency, and overall profitability.

Resists wear—delays corrosion, extends service life

Specifically designed to combat both abrasive wear and corrosion, Hardox® HiAce proves its name in the field as a corrosion-resistant metal. With the same excellent mechanical properties as Hardox® 450, it’s an ace at extending service life in corrosive environments that threaten to eat away at your equipment.

  • Lowers long-term maintenance and repair costs

Built for industries that wear other steels down

In the most punishing environments, steel equipment faces constant attack—from acids, humidity, sulfates, chlorides, ammonia, and other aggressive substances. Household waste, wood chips, manure, potash, and other by-products of industrial processes all pose unique chemical challenges that accelerate corrosion and wear. Hardox® HiAce has a specialized composition that resists corrosive wear in diverse environments. In agriculture, it stands up to ammonia exposure and sulfur-rich fertilizers. In pulp and paper operations, it resists acidic conditions created by chemicals and moisture. And in mining, it performs in the presence of iron ore, chloride-laden copper, bauxite, coal, or other corrosive materials. Whatever the challenge, Hardox® HiAce endures where conventional steels break down.

Waste and recycling:
Where corrosion and acids rule

Corrosion eats steel. Hardox® HiAce fights back.
In waste management and recycling, garbage trucks, containers, tippers, grapples, and plant equipment face relentless exposure to corrosive and abrasive materials. Municipal waste and biomass accelerate wear, quickly breaking down standard AR steel. Hardox® HiAce is specifically engineered for this environment—resisting both corrosion and mechanical abrasion to extend equipment life, reduce unplanned maintenance, and deliver dependable long-term performance.

> Ideal for wet, corrosive processes and aggressive handling

Wood, pulp and paper:
Daily grind of abrasion and moisture

Wet bark, wood chips, and acidic by-products? No match for Hardox® HiAce.
In pulp and paper mills, equipment faces constant exposure to wet bark, wood chips, and acidic by-products. Unlike conventional steel, which wears down quickly, Hardox® HiAce is engineered for these demanding conditions— delivering superior abrasion resistance and corrosion protection where conventional steel fails. From log and screw conveyors to wood processing equipment, it stands up to both high moisture and chemicals, extending service life, reducing maintenance, and keeping productivity flowing.

> Withstands chemicals and moisture-heavy processes in wood processing

Mines and quarries: A world of rock, dust, and impact

Corrosive minerals, moisture and a hot, humid environment—Hardox® HiAce can take it all.
Mining and quarry equipment faces a relentless assault—from abrasive rock and minerals to corrosive agents and high humidity. It’s an environment that rapidly breaks down conventional steel. Hardox® HiAce is made to withstand this mix of mechanical and chemical wear, delivering outstanding durability and corrosion resistance. From haulers and dump bodies to liners and chutes, it keeps equipment running longer and harder, extends service life and maximizes uptime.

> Reduces wear and breakdowns in high-impact, high-abrasion environments

Bendability matches Hardox® 450, welding is equally straightforward, and cutting is smooth and precise. As with all Hardox® steels, Hardox® HiAce comes with guarantees for thickness, flatness, and bending properties—ensuring predictable performance from shop floor to job site.

Success stories: Hardox® HiAce in action around the world

“Designing the container with Hardox® HiAce makes it stronger even with thinner plate.”

— Keita Shirakawa, Shirakawa Tekko Corp

Lower weight, less welding, and containers that last up to 2.7 times longer. That’s what Shirakawa Tekko gained when they started building waste containers with Hardox® HiAce steel. As one of Japan’s biggest hooklift container manufacturers, they understand the impact that thinner, lighter, and more durable steel plates can have on payload, fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions.

“Since we switched to Hardox® HiAce in our wood conveyor two years ago, we haven’t noticed any wear so far.”

— Rolf Ebbvick, Trosa Energi

At this biomass power plant in the tiny town of Trosa, Sweden, wood chips with 60% moisture content posed a tough challenge for the critical equipment used in a long energy chain. In the company’s new loading bay, Hardox® HiAce successfully fights a combination of acidic corrosion and moisture that would otherwise eat away at the log conveyor and cause premature wear.

“Using Hardox® HiAce was a first for us, and a positive surprise. No changes to our machines or extra training were needed.”

— Volker Stammer, Metallbau Perger

Metallbau Perger GmbH & Co. KG recently introduced Hardox® HiAce wear plate to protect high-wear areas. The plant’s grapple, used to handle biomass from the receiving bay to storage, was upgraded with Hardox® HiAce. The storage area, where moisture is added for combustion control, is now also lined with it, ensuring lasting performance under tough conditions.
