Unique Hook Lift Frame cuts costs and increases payload

The Swedish company ILAB, with headquarters in Tranås and production in Poland, is specialized in the manufacturing of containers for recycling and hook lift tippers for gravel and similar products. The program consists of nearly 100 different containers as well as tailor-made solutions for customers.

Close collaboration with SSAB

The new Hook Lift Tipper, which was introduced at the Elmia fair in August 2022, is a result of a close collaboration between ILAB and SSAB.

”With our new Hook Lift Tipper, we are raising the bar considerably. Now ILAB can compete with the absolute best in the industry”, says Pelle Thell, responsible for the contracting program at ILAB.

”More than 200 kilos less weight pays off in record time, as it both adds payload and saves fuel – especially considering how the market looks right now”.

Delivers kit ready for assembly

A large part of the weight loss lies in the fact that the entire Hook Lift frame structure is manufactured from SSAB's rectangular hollow section, Strenx^® Tube 700MLH.

”The tubes are cut by SSAB, which then delivers finished kits directly to our production facility”, Pelle Thell says. ”By using the Strenx^® Tube 700MLH instead of hot rolled U-sections, closed with a welded flat bar, we can reduce weld bead length by up to 70 percent and assembly time by up to 60 percent, while the frame is up to 30 percent lighter than conventional frames”.

Tested in every day use

The Hook Lift Frame kit used by ILAB is adjusted in some details to fit the company's specific needs. The standard kit is made for payloads up to 20 tons on 6 meter lengths and can be used for many different kinds of hook lift containers, platforms, tippers etc.

During 2021 and 2022 ILAB manufactured and tested 3 Hook Lift Frame kits in everyday use for freight of gravel and rock. The results were stunning! Not only from the advantage of quality, but also from the reduced weight.

“The new hook lift tipper can carry more than 200 kg extra on every trip” says Pelle Thell. ”Add to this that the body is made of the wear resistant Hardox® 500 Tuf, saving maintenance as well as adding a longer life span. Our customers can choose to keep the hook lift tipper when it's time for a new truck”.
