Armor and agility meet up in SVI’s rapid-response AK47 Golf 8 GTI

“In South Africa, it has become patently clear that the round-the-clock fight against crime needs fresh solutions. The SVI AK47 Golf 8 GTI is exactly that and equips rapid responders – in the private security sector and beyond – with both the required speed and the required protection,” says Nicol Louw, SVI Business Development Director.

The goal for SVI was to protect against handguns and rifles up to 7.62 x 39 mm, including AK47 rounds. The solution includes 3.5 mm thick Ramor steel plates to reach a B4+ protection level, and windows with 26 mm ballistic glass. 

To ensure the highest level of protection, SVI excluded composites from the design, instead relying on high-grade Armox^® armor and ballistic steel in areas such as the doors, pillars and even the roof.

Critical powertrain components are protected by armor steel installed in the front fenders, while the battery also receives bullet-resistant protection. In total, the armoring adds approximately 340 kg to the vehicle, a weight that has minimal impact on the vehicle’s acceleration and handling.
