The visit was a part of Nordic Summer Colloquim on Advanced Steel, NSCAS, which Triple Steelix arranged in order to show both what the region has to offer in the way of advanced steel industry, as well as to make new contacts with graduates from around the world.

At SSAB in Borlänge the eleven post graduate students, who came from Mexico, China, India, Turkey, Italy and Ukraine, had a guided tour through both the Hot Strip Mill and Cold Roll Mill.  This was the first time many of them had visited such a large production site and there were many questions.

Andrea Francesco Ciuffin, who studies at Politecnico di Milano, was particularly impressed by all of the quality controls made throughout the whole production process.

After the works tour the student were given a presentation by Eva Petursson, SSAB’s head of research and development about how SSAB works with research and development.  Then the students presented their own studies and projects to some of SSAB’s own researchers and product developers.

“Meeting students and listening to their thoughts and ideas is one of the more pleasurable aspects of our work.  It’s also interesting and educational to hear about what is being done in other parts of the world,” said Eva.
