All closing conditions with respect to SSAB’s sale of Division IPSCO’s tubular operations have been fulfilled. The closing of the tubular operations sale has thereby occurred, effective upon June 12, 2008.
In connection therewith, David Britten will take over as head of the North America Division, while John Tulloch leaves the company upon retirement.

SSAB is expanding its facility for steel powder for additive manufacturing in Oxelösund, enabling production at commercial scale, strengthening SSAB’s position in advanced materials, and meeting growing demand for high-performance metal powders for 3D printing. Production is planned to be gradually ramped up from the first quarter of 2028, with a capacity of approximately 350 tonnes per year.
On May 11, 2026, SSAB announced that the commissioning of the new electric arc furnace (EAF) in Oxelösund would be delayed due to appeals in the permitting process relating to the powerline that will connect the EAF. The appeals have now been withdrawn, and Vattenfall Eldistribution has announced that construction of the power line will resume. Today’s announcement means that the start of production in the new EAF is now expected in the second quarter of 2027.
SSAB is supplying decarbonized steel to Vattenfall for the construction of the ground-mounted solar park Juliusburg/Krukow in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The steel, SSAB Zero™, is produced from recycled scrap using fossil-free electricity and biogas, resulting in up to 70 percent lower fossil carbon emissions compared to conventional steel.
