Last October, SSAB Europe announced it was to modernize the production lines at the Hämeenlinna Tube Mill in Finland as part of the restructuring of its tube production operations. The around SEK 300 million investment in the Hämeenlinna Tube Mill has progressed to the stage where the warehouse extension is at rooftop height and the topping out ceremony will be held on June 14, 2019.

“When the warehouse extension is completed in August, it will enable more efficient in-house logistics and warehousing,” says Kari Väliaho, General Manager, SSAB Europe, Tubular products.

The next stage in the investment will begin with the dismantling of the existing precision tube line H3 and continue with the installation of a new tube line. This will be completed by the end of the year. In December, a start will be made on dismantling structural hollow section line H4 and continue with work on installing a new line.

“Work relating to the investments in the Hämeenlinna Tube Mill is expected to complete by the end of the first quarter of 2020,” Kari Väliaho says.

“The Hämeenlinna Tube Mill currently employs 120 people and this number is expected to increase once the lines have been completed.

The steel structures and façade elements for the warehouse have been supplied by Ruukki Construction, which is part of SSAB Group.
