    General Product Description

    The ASTM A588 specification is the Standard Specification for High-Strength Low-Alloy Structural Steel , up to 50 ksi Minimum Yield Point, with Atmospheric Corrosion Resistance for applications where strength and durability are needed. The required ASTM G101 Corrosion Resistance Index must be ≥ 6.0. In addition to the typical application in welded bridges and buildings, the specification is also commonly used in passenger rail cars.

        Thickness: Please inquire plate thicknesses greater than the listed maxima.  

        Width: Please inquire for plate widths less than 72 in. and plate widths greater than 120 in.

        Length: Please inquire for plate lengths less than 240 in. and for lengths greater than the listed maxima.

        Mechanical Properties

        Tensile testing is performed in the transverse direction according to ASTM A6 requirements. The tensile property requirements are tablulated below:

          Comparison

            1) For plates wider than 24 in, the elongation requirement is reduced by two percentage points. See elongation requirement adjustments in the Tension Test section of Specification ASTM A6.
