ASTM A945 GRADE 65 IS AVAILABLE BY INQUIRY ONLY.
ASTM A945 Grade 65 steel plate is a high-strength low-alloy structural steel with improved weldability, formability, and toughness for use in the construction of naval ships. ASTM allows the manufacturer the option to provide plates in thicknesses of 1.25 inches and less in the delivery conditions of as-rolled, normalized, or quenched and tempered. Plates greater than 1.25 inches in thickness must be supplied in the quenched and tempered condition. SSAB's First Article Inspection report is available upon request.
|Grade 65||Mill Plate||0.375 - 2.009.52 - 50.8||60 - 961500 - 2400||240 - 10806100 - 27430|
Width: Please inquire for plate widths < 72 inches and for plate widths >96 inches.
Length: Please inquire for plate lengths < 240 inches and > 1020 inches. Plates supplied in the quenched and tempered condition are limited to a maximum length of 600 inches.
Tensile testing is performed in the transverse direction. The required tensile properties are tabulated below:
|Elongation in 2" 1)
|Elongation in 8" 1)
|Grade 65||0.375 - 2.009.52 - 50.8||65||78 - 100||22||18|
1) For plates wider than 24 in. the elongation requirement is reduced two percentage points. See Tension Tests section of ASTM A370 for elongation requirement adjustments.
Charpy V-Notch impact testing in accordance with ASTM A673. Please inquire for orders requiring more stringent CVN impact testing.
|Grade||Min transverse average energy (ft-lbs)||Test temperature(°F)|
SSAB's chemical composition is in accordance with the requirements of the ASTM A945 Grade 65 specification. Please inquire for any chemistry or carbon equivalent restrictions that are outside the requirements of ASTM.
If Supplementary Requirement S79 for Weldability is specified, the type of weldabilitytest and acceptance criteria are subject to agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser. Please contact SSAB for information regarding welding.
