The Swedish Steel Prize celebrates steel innovations. It inspires engineers, designers and inventors to push the boundaries of steel for a better and more sustainable world. The nomination period for 2027 is now open.

All eyes on steel

The competition is open to companies and institutions from across the globe. The prize is awarded to the method or product that best displays how the properties of high strength steel have contributed to a significant innovation. To qualify, your nominated product must be viable from a business perspective and exist at least in the form of a prototype. Applied methods must be tested and documented for use in production.

“The Swedish Steel Prize is a celebration of innovation, engineering and knowledge sharing. We are looking for applications that push the boundaries of our imagination”, says Eva Petursson, Chair of the Swedish Steel Prize Jury and Head of Research and Innovation at SSAB.

Apply now for 2027

Submitted nominations are assessed by an independent jury consisting of industry professionals. Entries are assessed based on their level of innovation/creativity, sustainability, performance, and competitiveness.

See you in Stockholm!

The winner will be presented at an award ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, during the Swedish Steel Prize Days taking place June 1-3, 2027. During the three days, industry peers from around the world come together to learn, network and be inspired by new steel technologies and their innovative applications.

The winner of the Swedish Steel Prize receives a diploma, a statuette by the sculptor Jörg Jeschke, and intense media exposure. In conjunction with the Swedish Steel Prize event, SSAB will also make a SEK 100,000 donation to charity.
