When durability and weight savings matter, Strenx® steel drives performance

When it comes to transporting colossal loads like aircraft, train locomotives or massive mining trucks, the trailer matters. Cozad Trailers proves its innovative designs using Strenx® steel are lightweight, yet strong enough to maneuver oversized loads with ease and go where others won’t.

As a well-known manufacturer in the heavy-haul trailer industry, California-based Cozad Trailers built its reputation producing the lightest, strongest, and most maneuverable trailers available. The company’s core innovation responsible for the highest impact change came from lightweight designed trailers featuring Strenx® performance steel made by SSAB. With grades like Strenx® 700 E, Cozad delivers superior products that exceed customer demands for lighter heavy-haul, low-bed trailers without compromising strength. How can light be strong?

Precision engineering with Strenx® steel

The key to Cozad’s performance edge lies in its material choice. Strenx® 700 E enabled Cozad to significantly reduce trailer weight while enhancing structural integrity. For example, according to the company, its standard 39.9 metric ton (44-ton), 16-tire trailer once weighed up to 8,528 kilograms (18,800 pounds). Today, with Strenx® steel onboard, that number drops down into the low 7,000s (16,000s) —and even further into the mid-6,000s (mid-14,000s) for dual-frame models.

“We could have the best axles and tires, but it’s the steel that makes the difference,” says Tony Villalobos, Cozad Sales/Marketing.

Making friends in the workshop

Introducing Strenx® performance steel into any workshop requires initial training and set-up adjustments. However, with the material’s guaranteed tolerances for flatness and bending, it quickly finds favor with fabricators. The professionals at Cozad count on this repeatable consistency for efficient manufacturing.

Today, three of Cozad’s most popular trailers—the 35-ton, 80-ton, and 110-ton models—are My Inner Strenx® certified, and the company plans to apply for expanded certification. The My Inner Strenx® symbol serves as a promise to customers that these trailers are manufactured to the highest global standards.

Maneuver mighty loads upon lighter, stronger trailers

By using Strenx® structural steel in many of its designs, Cozad delivers lightweight trailers that still outmatch the competition in load capacity. The material's high strength-to-weight ratio means customers can carry heavier payloads on lighter trailers—maximizing both performance and profitability. Whether it’s transporting a 250,000-pound steerable trencher in Texas or a 60,000-pound aircraft in California, Cozad Trailers make the trip look like a joyride.

“They know they these trailers are going to hold their value. They know that they’re going to be able to run them hard,” says Villalobos,“They know they’re going to be able to take them where other people can’t go.”

For Cozad, stronger, lighter and lower won’t change. That’s why CEO Tom Pistacchio, confidently tells clients, “If you find a non-Strenx® part on our trailer, tell me—I’ll give it to you for nothing.”
