General Product Description The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) specification G40.20/G40.21 covers structural quality steel of a number of different product forms. SSAB produces structural quality plates and sheet in accordance with CSA G40.20/G40.21 with specified minimum yield strengths of 38 ksi to 70 ksi. CSA 70WT is a weldable, notch-tough steel with a specified minimum yield strength of 70 ksi for thicknesses up to 2.5 in. along with specified minimum Charpy V-notch impact toughness.
Grade | Product type | Thickness (in) |
Width (in) |
Length (in) |
---|---|---|---|---|
70WT | Plate | 0.375 - 0.750 | 80 - 110 | 240 - 1020 |
Thickness: Please inquire plate thicknesses greater than the listed maxima.
Width: Please inquire for plate widths less than 72 in. and inquire plate product over 120 in.
Length: Please inquire for plate lengths less than 240 in. and for lengths greater than the listed maximum.
Tensile testing is performed in the transverse direction. The required tensile properties are tabulated below:
Grade | Thickness (in) |
Yield strength (min ksi) |
Tensile strength (ksi) |
Elongation in 2" 1) (min %) |
Elongation in 8" 1) (min %) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
70WT | 0.375 - 0.750 | 70 | 85 - 115 | 14 | 12 |
1) See elongation requirement adjustment of CSA G40.20-13 (Latest edition).
Impact testing to be completed per CSA G40.21 requirements following Size Group requirements. Actual test temperature may be lower than standard temperature and will be reported with absorbed energy values.
Grade 1) | Thickness (in) |
Minimum Longitudinal Average Absorbed Energy (ft-lbs) | Test temperature(°F) 3) |

1) 70WT must be inquired to determine mandatory Charpy impact testing category and is subject to review before acceptance.
2) Category 5 must be inquired and is subject to review. Any values other than these shown and/or transverse testing shall be inquired as Category 5.
3) The tabulated temperatures in the table is the maximum standard longitudinal test temperature.
