SSAB is the industry's most attractive employer

SSAB has been named Sweden’s most attractive employer in the “Mines and Metals” industry. “It’s really great and means a lot for SSAB as a business,” said Maria Berndtson, head of HR, SSAB Special Steels.

Every year, Sweden’s young graduates get to vote for their ideal employer via the Karriärbarometern survey (The Swedish Student survey). This year, 2,873 BSc and 1,032 MSc engineering professionals took part in the survey. SSAB was voted among these two groups as the most attractive employer in “Mines and Metals”, an industry which also includes Boliden, LKAB and Outokumpu.

"SSAB has worked, both strategically and from a diversity point of view, for many years on its visibility and on attracting future talent to the steel industry. Our vision is for SSAB to be the most attractive employer in the metal industry in the Nordic countries,” said Berndtson.

In order to increase knowledge and awareness of SSAB as an attractive employer, efforts to develop its external online career site and miscellaneous marketing materials are being made. SSAB also participates each year in a wide range of projects for students and young graduates, as well as participating in trade fairs and events. The award can therefore be viewed as proof of several successful ventures.

“I want to thank everyone who has actively worked to increase knowledge and awareness of SSAB as an attractive employer, including the college group which is made up of managers and employees from different functions, who are good ambassadors for our company both internally and externally,” said Berndtson.

Gustav Mattsson, HR, works a great deal with the visibility of SSAB’s brand and is head of the college group.

“I think this award is something everyone at SSAB ought to feel proud of. So I urge all employees in the company to give themselves a pat on the back and continue to spread our good reputation, so we can be sure we stay at the top in the future,” said Mattsson.

Mattsson believes that the main reason SSAB is the most attractive employer in our industry, is the simple fact that we really are a good employer.

“We take good care of our employees and we are at the forefront of innovation, allowing each employee to be challenged and to develop in a positive way. SSAB’s reputation as an employer in our universities, and also in working life in general, is good. I think people are genuinely happy in their work and they also tell others about it,” he explained.

Attractive also among students

This spring Universum ran its Företagsbarometern survey, where students can vote for their ideal employer. There too, SSAB was voted most attractive in the “Mines and Metals” industry.

“In the Företagsbarometern survey, aimed at college and university students, we took first place in Mines and Metals from the MSc engineers – although not from the BSc engineers,” said Mattsson.
