To combat climate change we’re gonna need a lot more vehicles like this

We’re very proud to deliver the world’s first fossil-free steel in the new TA15 dumper from Volvo Group. No, one dumper won’t do much of a difference. But imagine if all dumpers in the world were made with fossil-free steel. All the cars, all the trains, all the bridges… It adds up.

GEARING UP WITH VOLVO GROUP

Change is on its way

SSAB is taking the lead in decarbonizing the steel industry. Together with our partners LKAB and Vattenfall we have come up with HYBRIT, a new revolutionary way to produce steel without emitting CO2. With HYBRIT, we aim to be the first steel company in the world to bring fossil-free steel to the market already in 2026 and to largely eliminate carbon dioxide emissions from our own operations around 2030.

Our goal is to reduce Sweden’s CO2 emissions by 10% and Finland’s by 7%.*

Building a sustainable future with fossil-free steel

The global challenge of halting and reversing current rates of climate change is urgent. The steel industry has the potential to play a significant role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions both in the production phase and by supporting current rates of recycling.

Why fossil-free steel?

A growing global population, an increasingly higher standard of living and greater urbanization will trigger a rise in global steel demand. Recycled scrap will not sufficiently meet the growing demand for new steel. The carbon footprint in the steel industry is thus a challenge for the world.

We are all part of this journey

The core of SSAB’s business is to develop and produce steel that is stronger and more durable than ordinary steels. By using our steel, companies all over the world can already reduce their environmental footprint by producing and using lighter steel products. With the introduction of fossil-free steel in 2026, our customers – and their customers – can be part of a fossil-free value-chain and drive their business towards a more sustainable world.
