Waste heat from SSAB Hämeenlinna to be used in district heating network

SSAB and energy company Loimua have agreed on the utilization of waste heat from SSAB Hämeenlinna (Finland) in the Hämeenlinna district heating network. Loimua will build a heating and cooling plant on SSAB's site. The plant will have a heating capacity of around 10 MW and produce approximately 70 GWh of district heat per year. This corresponds to the heating needs of approximately 3,000 single-family houses and covers around 15% of Hämeenlinna's heating needs.

Second phase of FOSSA collaboration starts

The second phase of the joint project FOSSA (Fossil-free Steel Applications) coordinated by SSAB Europe has received a positive financing decision from Business Finland. The project supports SSAB’s goal of building a fossil-free value chain from steel production to the end customer.

SSAB and Manitou Group agree on deliveries of fossil-free steel

SSAB has signed a letter of intent for deliveries of fossil-free steel to Manitou Group. Deliveries are set to start in 2026 and ramp up as SSAB’s fossil-free steel production capacity increases. This agreement meets the ambitions of the two companies to significantly reduce their direct and indirect carbon emissions.

Major corporations engaged in a unique research collaboration to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions

Together with several large Swedish companies and universities, SSAB has joined a new research collaboration aimed at identifying technologies and solutions that eliminate greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to SSAB, Boliden, Borgstena, Lindholmen Science Park, Polestar, Sekab, SKF, Stora Enso, Volvo Cars, and multiple universities are part of the initiative called Mission 0 House.
