Joint types

Welding joints can be divided into two categories:

Butt weld: Ensures complete penetration between the two plates and therefore often require edge preparation. The best option for load carrying welds with high demands on both static and dynamic loads.


Fillet weld: Partly or no penetration between the materials, does not require any edge preparation, demands lower tolerances for fitting pieces together and usually have lower load transferring capacity in aspect of both static and dynamic load compared to butt welds.
