Argentina’s leading tipper manufacturer, Industrias Baco, was the first company in Argentina to produce half-pipe tipper truck bodies made in Hardox® 500 Tuf wear plate. The results? More satisfied customers, stronger yet lighter bodies, and about a 30% longer product lifespan.

Industrias Baco is the market leader in Argentina in the heavy-duty tipper truck segment. The company has been producing tippers since 1953 and has helped transform the market for tipper trucks in the country with the help of Hardox® 500 Tuf.

Customers get the hard-wearing, versatile products they want

As soon as Hardox® 500 Tuf was made available, it caught the attention of the people from Industrias Baco, who were quick to secure the first shipments.

“We were looking for something new to differentiate us from our competitors,” says Nicolas Cartasegna, operations manager at Industrias Baco. “That´s why we immediately showed our interest when we saw the launch of a new Hardox product.”

The switch to Hardox® wear steels from traditional steel has been fundamental to the company’s increased sales. With an extended product lifespan, customer satisfaction is at an all-time high.

“I believe Hardox steel has been a great part of our sales success,” says Patricia Meers, financial manager at the company. “SSAB has helped us a great deal with marketing over these past years, and sales of our tippers have increased greatly with the help of Hardox® wear plate. Our clients are very satisfied because the Hardox® material is much more hard-wearing and versatile.”

New tipper truck design for faster unloading

Industrias Baco changed the truck design of its tipper to distinguish it from the models made with Hardox® 450. The new tipper made in Hardox® 500 Tuf has a conical design for the sides. This makes unloading easier, with materials such as clay or sand in particular flowing more freely than with a standard rectangular truck design.

30% longer service life

Most of the customers are interested in longer service life as compared to more payloads. The new tippers in Hardox® 500 Tuf share the same thickness, 6 mm (0.236"), as the models with Hardox® 450. This results in an increase in service life of about 30%. For customers that previously used tippers in 8 mm (0.315") Hardox® 450, the new tipper in 6 mm (0.236") Hardox® 500 Tuf weighs 700 kg (1543 lbs.) less and provides the same service life.

“We have already delivered around 60 tipper trucks made with Hardox 500 Tuf and the potential looks great. Our goal is to upgrade to Hardox 500 Tuf for all our tippers"

Nicolas Cartasegna, Operations Manager at Industrias Baco
