Brazil bets on data: Investments, digital sovereignty and top-level security

There are 162 data centers in Brazil, according to estimates from the Brazilian Data Center Association. The largest concentration is in the Southeast, with 110. Next comes the South, with 27, followed by the Northeast, with 15. The Central-West has 8, and the North, 2.

Redata: Brazil's commitment to digital sovereignty

The government intends to create a policy structured to not only attract investment but also develop the production chain in the information and communication technology sector. Redata is one of the economic team's 25 goals until the end of the administration in 2025. The program will provide exemptions from IPI, PIS/COFINS, and import taxes on equipment for five years. According to estimates from the Treasury, this milestone could boost up to R$2 trillion in investments over the next decade. Considering that 60% of the country's digital infrastructure services are located abroad, the policy also aims to achieve digital sovereignty, as this dependence is reflected in an annual deficit of R$6 billion to R$8 billion in Brazil's trade balance. Brazil also wants to highlight its competitive advantages, such as its clean energy production capacity, privileged location, and geographic location, to attract investment.

Northeast Brazil – a strategic hub for data infrastructure

The Northeast region has established itself as a strategic hub for data center development, particularly due to its abundant renewable energy sources, such as wind power, and the proximity of submarine cables that guarantee high connectivity. Ceará is leading this movement, with billion-dollar projects, including a R$55 billion investment by Casa dos Ventos and negotiations between the state government and Chinese companies that could inject up to R$50 billion into the region. ByteDance is evaluating a major project in the Pecém port complex, while other companies, such as V.tal and Angola Cables, are also investing in the Ceará capital. HostDime plans to build a new Tier IV edge data center in João Pessoa.

Armored steel and protection – securing the digital infrastructure

Data centers are responsible for storing and processing massive amounts of data daily. Due to their importance, these locations become prime targets for physical attacks. Therefore, architectural shielding is essential to ensure the security of their operations. Within this segment we have several applications for architectural armoring: Armored doors, walls and glass, safes for magnetic media (protection of hard drives, magnetic tapes), armored drawers (transfer of documents, devices, etc.), frames and windows.
