Environmental policy
SSAB develops, manufactures and markets high quality steels which fulfil important technological and economic needs. Metals and other industrial supplies are also marketed. Within the Group, all operations shall be conducted in a resource-effective and efficient manner in respect of the use of raw materials, energy and other natural resources. The commercial operations are based on environmental work which contributes to permanent and sustainable development of the use of steel in society.
It is SSAB’s aim to maintain a leading position within the steel industry in the environmental performance of products and processes.
As concrete guidelines for SSAB’s environmental work, we shall
- constantly improve the environmental qualities of our products in conjunction with the use of a life-cycle prospective;
- prioritise technologically and economically feasible manufacturing processes and transportation systems which conserve raw materials, energy and other natural resources and which do not harm the environment through emissions and waste products;
- work with measurable environmental goals and always be able to verify that we are fulfilling the requirements and conditions placed on us by society;
- engage our employees and subcontractors in the environmental work and, in an open and substantive manner, communicate with our customers and other interested parties with regard to environmental aspects on our operations;
- prevent and limit unintentional emissions and provide advance analyses of the environmental consequences of new or modified operations;
- actively participate in research and development work regarding the environment and our operations;
- adapt the environmental work, where relevant, to international agreements and industry-wide principles.
It shall be the responsibility of the President of each subsidiary to ensure that the Group’s environmental policy is fulfilled within the unit. Individual supplements or adaptions may be made in order to strengthen the policy.
