Steel Operation
Strip Products Division is the largest Nordic manufacturer of steel sheet, and one of the leading European suppliers of high strength steel sheet.
High-strength steel strip products is used in applications where high-strength and low weight are required. High-strength steels are used in applications such as the heavy automotive industry, in crane manufacture and for structural components of containers. The product range includes hot and cold-rolled sheet, metal-coated sheet and painted sheet. Almost 40% of this is high-strength sheet.
Steel sheet is manufactured in thicknesses from 0.10 to 16 mm and in widths of up to 1600 mm.
Plate Division is the world's leading producer of quenched steel. The term quenched steel refers here to heavy steel plate with extra high strength and good weldability, combined with high abrasion resistance and good formability. Quenched steel such as HARDOX abrasion-resistant steel and WELDOX structural steel are used in applications that require a combination of very high strength with good weldability or abrasion resistance. Quenched steels are sold all over the world, and typical applications include contracting machinery and mining equipment. Around 60% of deliveries consist of quenched steel. Steel plate is manufactured in thicknesses from 3 to 155 mm and in widths up to 3500 mm.
North American Division (NAD) is the number one supplier of plate in North America. This division operates two steel mills located in Mobile (Alabama) and Montpelier (Iowa) together with three cut-to-length facilities in Toronto (Canada) and St. Paul and Houston (USA). In aggregate, these facilities have an annual capacity of approximately 2.5 million tonnes of crude steel production. High performance steels with advanced chemical and physical properties manufactured by the North American Division are used in a variety of demanding applications. NAD’s flat rolled steelworks can produce discrete plate in thicknesses up to 4½ inches and coil in thicknesses up to ¾ inches. Through the Alabama Steelworks, we have expanded our value-added product lines to include blast and painted products, as well as quench and tempered, and normalized plate products.
Processing
