Lighter and stronger cranes
One of the worlds leading international manufacturers of heavy cranes and lifting equipment was looking for an improved steel solution for a plate kit with a turntable for a rough terrain crane. The steel kit previously used did not meet their quality demands and their supplier was becoming increasingly unreliable, which meant delays in both production and delivery.
After approaching SSAB, the decision was made to use the services of SSAB Shape to switch suppliers and to provide two kits made from SSAB High Strength Steel – Domex 700, as well as Weldox 700 and 960. The result was an immediate success. The company was not only able to produce a lighter and stronger turntable kit, but has also been able to obtain more accurate production scheduling and delivery precision due to the reliability of their new supplier and SSAB Shape.
Secure and durable IT components
When a large Internet service provider from Sweden approached a well-known OEM about the creation of a new server container solution that would provide extreme security for central server databases in remote sub-terrain locations, the OEM turned to SSAB Shape.
With cooperation from the end customer and technical advisors from SSAB , the server container was designed to meet the exact demands required. The entire solution was designed and developed by SSAB Shape and included engineering design, supply of SSAB’s ballistic and ultra high strength steel grades Armox, Weldox and Domex, fabrication, installation of soundproofing materials, as well as pneumatically operated doors. And it was delivered finished and ready for the installation of electrical systems and the computer servers.
More competitive farming equipment
One of the top producers of farming equipment in the EU is another example of a company that has innovated with SSAB Shape to become more competitive.
When the band saws used in the production of their fertilizer spreaders began to show signs of age, the company decided not to replace the machines. Instead, they utilized the benefits of pre-processed High Strength Steel from SSAB Shape and obtained pre-cut hollow sections for their Just-in-time deliveries. Due to the success of the first cooperation, SSAB Shape was then asked to support with the development of many new products, one example being a new fertilizer spreader with self-supporting sidewalls.
Together with the customer’s engineering department, SSAB Shape helped in designing a self-supporting container from Domex 460 and introduced a high quality subcontractor that was price competitive and reliable for their production needs. The project was a success and as a result, SSAB Shape has become involved in the upgrading of their entire product portfolio.
