SSAB EMEA

SSAB EMEA has production facilities in Luleå, Borlänge and Oxelsöund in Sweden. SSAB owns three blast furnaces - the only currently available in Sweden. The largest blast furnace is in Luleå, where steel slabs are produced. There are two smaller blast furnaces in Oxelösund. Oxelösund produces heavy plate in a fully integrated process; from pig iron to steel slabs which are rolled to heavy plates. The steel slabs are transported from Luleå to Borlänge for rolling and processing into strip products.

The steelworks in Luleå are based on blast furnace technology. The steelworks produces steel slabs using iron ore and coal as inputs. The steel slabs are transported to the production plant in Borlänge where SSAB has hot and cold roll mills in addition to coating and finishing lines. Borlänge produces ordinary strip products and high strength steels. After ongoing investment in a direct hardening line for quenched strip products, Borlänge will have additional capacity for 300 thousand tonnes of quenched steel.

Certain products are processed in Finspång where there is painting, and there are stamping operations at subsidiaries in Italy, the UK and Holland.

Integrated steelworks for quenched steel in Oxelösund

The steelworks in Oxelösund is based on blast furnace technology where the inputs are mainly iron ore and coal. The production is a fully integrated process from blast furnaces and coke ovens to the finished plate. The steel slabs are rolled to heavy plate in a quadruple roll mill. The works in Oxelösund are among the strongest in the world.

Plannja

Plannja is a wholly owned subsidiary of SSAB and is part of the SSAB EMEA organization. Plannja further processes strip products for the construction industry, e.g. gutters, metal roofs and facade sheeting (Prelaq Energy). Plannja is one of Europe's leading brands in these segments.
