Sales took off for Nortech in Norway when it began to sell Hardox and became a member of Hardox Wearparts. Sales skyrocketed 400 percent!
Nortech is a machine shop and general supplier of services to industry, entrepreneurs, wholesalers, and other workshops.
In 2008 Nortech sold about 30 tons of abrasion-resistant steel, both Hardox and competing products. Sales surged after the company became a Hardox Wearparts member in 2009. During the first seven months Nortech sold about 50 tons of Hardox and a total of 130 tons in 2009, for an increase of about 400 percent.
At first CEO Geir Tindvik encountered some resistance from the owners when he proposed selling Hardox. But he pushed the decision through and hired a sales associate whose sole responsibility was Hardox, which quickly gave results.
The customers have also reacted positively and feel secure with Hardox. The product maintains a good consistent standard, according to Nortech. Hardox is also easier to process in the shop, according to the customers.
SSAB has trained Hardox Wearparts members at the basic Hardox course in Oxelösund, and each member receives on-site processing training.
CEO Geir Tindvik says that being backed by SSAB’s expertise and technical support is an excellent selling point when dealing with various customers. He is also extremely satisfied with the collaboration between SSAB and Nortech. In addition, Tindvik says that the Wearparts concept is ideal with respect to taking advantage of expertise in steel and processing technology.
Plans are now underway for additional Nortech employees to attend Hardox courses. The more in-house expertise, the more the company can inform and assist its customers.
Nortech’s customers include manufacturers of buckets, front blades, and concrete elements, as well as the gravel and recycling industries.
The collaboration between SSAB and Nortech dates back to 2007 when they began buying Hardox directly from SSAB (the first order was for 3.8 tons).
On March 13, 2009, Nortech became a Hardox Wearparts member and since then orders have risen sharply.
Hardox Wearparts is a global network of certified workshops with technicians specially trained to produce wear parts made of Hardox.
