SSAB steel is custom-made in Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF). The continuous caster, in combination with the state-of-the-art Steckel Mills, provide customers with exacting width and gauge control, superb surface finish and uniform mechanical properties.
In addition to its Mobile, Alabama and Montpelier, Iowa steelworks, SSAB also operates cut-to-length facilities in Toronto, Ontario, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Houston, Texas. These facilities feature state-of-the-art temper mills and cut-to-length lines. SSAB processes steel coils of various widths, gauges and grades to meet customer specific requirements. SSAB North America's current lines are capable of meeting ½ standard ASTM tolerances on dimensions and flatness.
SSAB's customers include Service Centers which purchase processed material for re-sale, Fabricators, OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and Job Shops, which further process the steel.
The premium finished quality of Temper Leveled Coil (TLC) results in improved performance and total cycle savings through increased productivity and lower finished product rejection rates. The consistency of the product contributes to increased savings through reduced set up costs. With conventional leveling, the external surface of the plate or sheet appears flat, but the core retains its coiled memory. Fabrication processes will release this memory, causing distortion. SSAB’s TLC process has solved this problem. The process erases coil memory throughout the plate - eliminating cross-break, cross-bow and edge wave. Whether you punch, form or burn, products remain flat throughout the manufacturing process.
Another aspect of the TLC process is Total Lower Cost, one of its greatest advantages.

SSAB’s TLC facilities have the capability to flatten, level, and cut coiled steel to specified lengths ranging from 6 to over 60'. SSAB produces a wide range of products with thicknesses up to 5/8" and widths up to 96".
