Why did you choose to work at SSAB?
At the time, having worked in the Steel Industry for 25 years, SSAB always had a reputation of quality. Their quality products and quality people with excellent customer service/focus attitude. I wanted to sell a product which had more than just the price of steel attached to it, but also had something of value to add. This came in the form of Technical support, and outstanding brand memberships like Hardox In My Body & Hardox Wearpart’s products produced in Sweden also have a fantastic reputation of being the best in the world. I have worked for 2 Swedish companies in the past (SKF & Sandvik), so when the opportunity came up with SSAB, I ‘jumped at the chance’!
What is your educational background?
After finishing high school I straight away wanted a career in the steel industry. I have done a number of Steel focused training programs over the years, but by far the best was attending the SSAB run Steel Pro Academy training in Sweden in 2011.

What do you think of your development at SSAB so far?
After 25 years in the steel industry in 2006, I thought I knew everything I needed to know about steel! How wrong was I!!! The role I have has as Regional Sales Manager has certainly developed by knowledge in a lot of area’s like Time Management, Customer Service, Technical solutions, Negotiation Skills….basically running my sales area as if it was my own business. SSAB has always been behind me to offer assistance and guidance, but more importantly, the opportunity to let me make decisions that can determine that my sales territory is adding sales and profits to the overall SSAB outcomes.
How do you see your future at SSAB?
I still enjoy the ‘thrill’ of sales, selling niches products and doing more than just selling steel. I have also recently taken on developing the Armox business in the Pacific Region. As I see it, there are plenty of opportunities within SSAB to grow professionally and personally. Working in another country is something that I will always consider, particularly Sweden. Sweden is where it starts and finishes. To learn different skills or go into another job area (Business Development, Project Management, Product Development) in the company’s ‘home land’ is very appealing.
