Industrial doors more colourful thanks to Prelaq Energy

Krister Andero, General Manager and engineer at Prido

Industrial doors from the Swedish company Prido open the gates to the future for truck manufacturer Scania.
In a few years, Scania will increase the service with new workshops all over the world. Every new facility will have industrial doors delivered by Prido.

“The doors will be unique and an important part of a new concept”, says Krister Andero, General Manager and engineer at Prido.

Prido AB is situated in Tråvad, a small village in the southern half of Sweden. From these origins Prido also started. The farmers needed reliable doors for barns and garages and the founders of Prido developed a functional product. In the beginning customers were found nearby, but this was a long time ago. Now Prido is known and respected for innovative solutions and trustworthy products.

“Imagine what would happen if the doors out to the loading platform on a manufacturing facility broke down”, Krister Andero explains. “Today all logistics systems are based upon the fact that all merchandise is delivered just in time. There is just no time for anything interfering with the timetable. “

Now the focus is on demanding customers asking for doors that are important for logistics, but also essential to strengthen other company values.

In many cases the look is very important. Doors can be used as a design element creating an exciting industrial building.
“We have had architects giving nice examples of this”, says Krister Andero.
“But even more important is that our doors can be used to strengthen the environmental values”.

The challenge

Heat destroys sandwich elements

In a way the new product for Scania is an example of this.
The doors have a new dark colour which until now could not be used for insulated doors.

The sandwich elements for the sectional overhead doors consist of an inner and outer steel sheet with foam insulation in between. The sandwich elements for the sectional overhead doors consist of an inner and outer steel sheet with foam insulation in between.

Basically the doors are made from a sandwich design, with an inner and outer layer of prepainted steel sheet moulded together with a core of foam insulation. If the door colour is too dark it will become very hot when the sun shines in the summer. The sandwich element will be affected and even destroyed if the temperature becomes too high.

The solution

Prepainted doors reflect heat effectively

“When we discovered the new product Prelaq Energy we found the solution to this problem”, says Krister Andero. “This prepainted product reflects the heat so much that we can use a really dark colour without sacrificing the quality of our doors”.

This project started with the need for a prepainted product which did not get too hot, but in the end Prido had other requisites as well. One obvious advantage of the Prelaq Energy is that it can be used to keep heat outside the building. This has proven to save a lot of energy. Air conditioning and keeping a comfortable indoor climate is a growing problem in many countries. Tests have shown that Prelaq Energy can save 15 percent of the energy used to cool shopping centres, airport terminals, etc.

The combination of Prelaq Energy, efficient insulation and good weatherstripping creates a base for the growth that Prido has experienced in the past.

The future is created by attractive design, quality and low maintenance costs.
“In reality we do not sell industrial doors, we sell solutions”, says Krister Andero.

“Even more important is that our doors can be used to strengthen the environmental values”.
